I Fear Rejection...

My music isn't for you,

Or for anybody else.

It is for my satisfaction, but like any other, I am afraid of rejection.

I took my music to a band,
hoping they would count me in,
they said I play it well but
I fail to create an atmosphere.
I walked back sorry for myself,
but dear,
How in Pete's name
should I create an atmosphere?

I went to a restaurant then,
where there are not only young but also old men,
I played my music for them,
But the manager told me ( in a polite way)
to get out!
I thought my music was a gem,
But for these people I was a fraud without doubt...

Or maybe ,
Just maybe,
I am somewhere lacking,
I am somewhere bad,
I need to realize the reason,
Why do these people go mad!

Crushed and crumbled I am,
but still some courage exists...
I go to various places and insist,
But nobody seems to accept my art,
And why should they?
I have enough faith in myself and my art,
I know I can do it well...
But somewhere in the corner of my heart,
Someone says I am lacking and rings a bell...

With no courage or faith I return home,
maybe I shouldn't play it here either,
coz I fear rejection, again.
I fear not being accepted, again,
I fear losing faith in my art, again...

Nevertheless, there is someone who has told me to play...
I bear a small smile,
but I am nervous (yes, I am!),
I clench my fist,
I look at my palm,
I look at my loved one
And three; two; one;

There I go...I play it one more time...
the fear still exists,
But I am stronger this time...
I play the last note...
I wait for a reaction...
There is no rejection...
I believe I don't lack an atmosphere,
I can't hear words from my dear,
Only claps...
And admiration in eyes...
the faith comes back,
courage comes back
And my confidence shoots up...
No, I am not accepted  yet by all,

But who cares???
All I care about is
those claps...
that admiration...
And my first little bit of celebration!!!

Let em Fly, Let em Flow...

Aspi Patel

I did not write for the sake of it...
I did not write for money...
I did not write for attention seeking...
But just for the purpose of expressing...
When I wrote the first few words...
They flew from the pen like free open birds...
But today as I stare at the blank document,I feel like a hopeless patient...
But I know the words will come again...
And fly like birds in the open again...
Let those birds be trapped for a while...
Coz when they'll be free they'll be worthwhile!!!!
I want the words to be my friend...
And help me write start to end...
But today those words just won't come And probe me to delete and wait some time...
But to write again I gotta dissolve that block...But I need some inspiration..Or some kind of motivation! Let the birds fly..Let the words flow...And let them and reach the world Oh! oh!
I will face the blank page...
But will fight it out...
And to the words I shout...
Just get out there, And Dissolve the block!
writers block, shahen pardiwala

When the Ink, Literally runs Dry!

Recently, I visited the Tata lit fest. There were a bunch of accomplished writers who spoke on a topic that aroused a lot of curiosity in me. “When the ink runs dry!” We experience that don’t we? When there ain’t no inspiration to write about and nothing more to share…we keep staring at the blank document. Ask me! It is the most awful feeling a writer can have! But, something even more awful and frustrating is when the ink, literally runs dry!
When the ink dries

When you are looking for a paper to scribble your amazing idea, that beautiful poem, and you don’t find it! And what if your pen’s ink dries up! What do you do?
We writers prefer jotting down the ideas that we get for our next venture quickly, so that it doesn’t slip our mind.  We write it down on a sheet of paper. Quickly! Just a few words or sentences that may later remind us to write about it…but then there are times, when we aren’t able to.
Even the phone battery runs out so you have no choice but to press it hard on your mind, and then wait for the time to come…the time when you have your resources in place and can pen down or rather type what you had felt. But until that moment comes, when you have the laptop in front of you, and finally you can write, there is a phase of helplessness, and frustration. If you don’t have anything to write, it’s bearable to wait for ideas and inspirations to come to you…but when there are emotions and feelings vigorously trying to get out on paper, and you aren’t able to write is the point when you feel hopeless.
You feel as if you have a laptop but absolutely no electricity at home to make it work…that feeling cannot be compensated…that is one such sensation that makes you feel lonely! I had it quite a few time…especially when I am out or writing on paper…I try with at least five to six pens before I actually get one that lasts for 30 seconds...
And by the time I get my pen, or the laptop I have lost the inspiration. I have actually lost the essence of what I wanted to write. It’s like having billions but not having a single desire….it’s like having lots of chefs and food but no hunger…it’s a feeling I seldom get, as I earlier said, but when I get it, it is painful!
All I can say, while I convince you and myself, is that ideas come and go…if a story is supposed to be told, it will be…if an idea has to be shown to the people out there, it will be.
So, my friend, there’s not much to actually worry when the ink, literally runs dry! Nevertheless, from Paulo Coelho, this will sound like words of wisdom, but from me you would want to know why you should go forth and continue reading my post.
  1)    If it has to be told, it will be: That’s what I said, and that’s what I believe. Sometimes, it is hard to convince my own self! Sometimes I need to give sermons and pep-talks to myself: “Come on bro cheer up! It was just an idea…” “Hey you, sulking over a story about an old circus joker???” “That was just one of those billion muses you got!” and then the other side of me says, “Something so interesting has gone!”
It’s up to me which side I listen to…if I go by the first side’s advice, I move on with something else, something new, something different…I wait for that thing to come back to me, which may be never…but I don’t stop hoping…and definitely not blogging…but if I go by the second one’s instruction, I regret for having forgotten the master piece that could translate the lives of millions…Really???
Curse myself and strain my memory to recollect what that thing was!!! I forget for a short span of time that before a writer, blogger, or anything else I am a human being, who ought to live his life to the fullest.
It is worthwhile to translate life experiences into books, articles or posts; nevertheless I find it a futile process to continuously focus on writing, or for that matter on any “ONE” thing!!! Although, getting an idea or thought process on paper is a skill that many have and many crave for, I need to remember that there doesn’t exist just one thing in this world that we are supposed to give all our time and energy to…but it’s always my choice…
  2)    I love to write and express myself…I feel that blogging, especially has benefitted me to show the world what I have and what I am! It helps me create and maintain an identity. But when I feel that this is the time I need to write something, I do not want to create an idea. I prefer getting those new topics from around me…I prefer stumbling upon something to write about rather than writing about something I gave tonnes of thought about!
It ruins the essence and I feel dishonest. To myself! If I am given a topic to write about, I feel that I am in a better situation. But if I have to build something on my own-from the foundation, without a format, I seem to not go beyond a paragraph or so!                Sometimes, even the subject of matter that I am given to write about seem to not hold my fancy…there I feel the Indispire on IndiBlogger is really helpful for those who are stuck and not getting ideas.
  3)    One thing that I feel, is if I get something to write about from my surroundings, I sometimes hope that the ink runs dry... oft, it so happens that I type a word or so that can remind me later of the subject. But the problem that occurs is that when I do so, I tend to lose the core and how I had actually related that idea. In other words, I actually forget what I had meant to write about.
I remember the key points, major topic of discussion but what I lose is the soul of what I had wanted to write. That in turn fills me with even more disappointment, regret and pain that is contrary to that feeling I get when I complete writing a post. That feeling of accomplishment when you get after completing something is replaced by a sensation of incompletion!!! So, I try and write a bit. The beginning...This lets me know whether this thing is going to go ahead and if I can finish the entire article!!!
  4)    Unfortunately, I can’t recommend you any sites where you get ink for your dry pen!!!
Please let me know how you cope with the feeling I discussed…I am sure as writers you might be getting these. Not just writing but if you develop games, write scripts or do something that requires you to innovate continuously! The comment box is all yours…

Can Writers Bring Social Changes?

Can writers bring change in the society?

But, first of all, what does a "change in the society" mean to us? A social change, literally is an alteration in the way something happens in society. Any change, be it for the good or bad of the society, whether it causes happiness or sorrow, has a reason, sometimes several.
And at the same time, it has a cause. What we need to find out is, are writers one of the causes? Is the change good or bad? Is it, in any way, a change? Let's find out...
Formation of democratic government, replaced the age old monarchy. Was it a good change? Not for all, but for many.
One cannot please all. Similarly, one situation, change, or thing cannot be expected to be accepted by all!
But, we shall first see if writers are capable to bring about change. These, now a huge bunch of people who spend time writing content for their blog, site or book, are capable of bringing about change. Anyone, in fact is capable to do it. If Mark Zuckerberg  Sergey Brin , Larry Page, Dhirubhai Ambani, or all those who we take inspiration from can do it, why can't we?
To take a really simple example, can you notice, that there is a slight decrease in the number of crackers being burst this Diwali. Why do you think this happened. Its social media! There were many sites and advertisements promoting To have a green, or pollution free Diwali. ,any have, including me written against crackers! The margin is slight but it is happening. One day it will come to an end.
But this decrease, was it me? Just me writing a single article, half a dozen tweets and two to three FB posts. They were those so many number of articles, ads and people, who we call writers and bloggers who brought this change.
So, it isn't just one writer or one article or one tweet that brings about a change. It needs people to come together. No need to meet up, the internet has brought the world closer anyways.
It requires thousands of people striving for the change. A "writer" can only take the initiative to begin the process of bringing about a change. Only "writers" can make it happen.
But the next question is, how does this happen? This happens over a period of time. A change can come along, only if, as I earlier said, collectively.
If a change is important and from the point of view of one person, and not in agreement with others, it may never happen. For a change to happen, it needs to be in acceptance with everybody concerned.
Can only writers on the internet bring this about? Not necessarily! It can also be a number of writers- sometimes it may be book writers, novelists and bloggers collectively.
And, what about the people who are neither readers of books, nor on the internet? Not all people have good literary skills. But they are a part of society. So, if there is a change in society that they are against, and are unaware of it, they will continue doing something the way they have been doing it.
There are crackers being burst. There has been a change due to the articles, but not as much, that the ones who want to change would like.
Many continue to burst crackers, so, the articles are a waste over them. Hence, for a change to take place, not only writers but also readers are required.
Even after all this, if we have crackers not being burst by many, we have crackers being burst by even more people.        So, the writing world is limited to bring about a change in readers, who are able to read their articles. But wait a second, if the change is limited to a small sect of people in the society, is it a change in the society?
It is a minute, slight change, but a change nevertheless! But can you consider a change in the one tenth part of the society as a change? A change in society, has to be complete, but a change is a change is a change!
So, we come back to the question of questions: Can writers bring about change in the society? And the debate is endless...
