Good Morning Continues…

 “How I learnt learning.”

                Good Morning Continues…

                    continued from...How I learnt Learning...
“Good Morning” has yet another aspect. BAGS! We call them School bags. Bags-to-help carry books. But now, books aren’t the only load. There are plenty of other things school demands children to carry.
Nine hours of school require lunch, breakfast and snacks, a water bottle to add to the burden. The art period requires- a portfolio, sheets, paints, bowls, brushes, and all the other assortment of things required. Exams call for exam pads (the continuous test pattern makes it worse). On submission days files laden with billions of sheets and paper are required. The rainy season calls for raincoats and umbrellas; the winter demands sweaters. Once in the classroom; they aren’t required at all and eventually dumped into the bag. And of course!!! The Books!!! How could we forget them? They are last on the list, yet make up most of the bags’ weight. The books, too are divided- diaries, notebooks, textbooks, reference books, workbooks, rough books, rapid reader books, library books and what not. Ultimately, an eight year old 20 kilogram child ends up lifting a 5 kilogram bag, or a few grams here and there. The higher the standard, more the cargo! Is it school a child is going to or a war?
Is that much amount of material TRULY required? Is it effective? I had seen a number of my peers bent double with weight of the hefty bag, they all carried. I, myself, have had red marks on my shoulders. My back ached when I picked that load of a thing. On top of that there was a long march to the classroom; from the bus to entry, entry to stairs, and then five floors to climb. A lift was there- but only one, and that too not in use for everyone. No wonder the teachers carrying just a purse went in the lift and we, the students with almost 10 kilos on our back and hands, were supposed to walk up the stairs!!!!

A student of grade six fell off her balcony of her house and died a painful death. The cause was said to be the bulky school bag she was lifting. She lost her balance due to the bulk and fell. It was the headlines of one of the English newspapers. There was a lot of discussion over this. THEY said, “You should carry only what is required.” Yes!!! We carry only what is required, but if there are a total of nine periods and all books have to be carried, there is no option at all. What can a child do if he is given remarks for not bringing a book and falls down a balcony if he carries all?
However, within a day or two it was forgotten by the world. But not forgotten by the girl’s family members- they grieve, curse and regret and that’s all.
I again questioned myself. Is a school worth the child’s accident? Is a school bag worth my backaches and shoulder bruises? Is a school bag worth climbing so many steps and gaining nothing but pain? Then what is it worth of? Education! A child’s knowledge and intelligence isn’t affected by the weight of his school bag. Even if the child doesn’t carry bags and keeps them at a locker in school, does it matter at all?
Then why the school bag, or why the daily stress of school; to create headlines in a newspaper?? To create cold and hot packs, applying them on the night before school and carrying the same weight again? Just because all are doing so! Just with the thought that the girl was careless and that one should install grills on a balcony! Are we willing to compromise health and an extra ordinary child with an ordinary school bag? Should we?
What is school? A daily dose of weight lifting and backaches or a temple of knowledge!
Why can’t there be individual lockers at school? If one can waste money over annual days and sports days why can’t one spend over lockers- which will be better ultimately for the students? If there are lockers: books, materials and other stationery can be kept there.
Why carry bags when they are going to be back with the same books and material? Why ask for art materials when hardly some of them are to be used? Why ask for reference books, notebooks which are hardly used? Why the other reference and workbooks for formality? Why all this when it is nothing but an additional load?
Maximum chapters are left untouched. Only one -fourth of the notebooks are used. The rest is left blank. Reference books and exercise book, as I said earlier are mere formalities. Scrap books, graph-books and science journals are used only once or twice a year. At the end of the year they are just wasted- and a new one has to be bought every year.  Even textbooks are left incomplete with a number of chapters incomplete.
What about chapters 6, 7, 8, 10???

A really thinking mind brought an idea called- notepad as an alternative to notebooks- assuming that notepads might decrease the weight. The idea is brilliant, but lack of execution is the culprit for the failure of this system.
The notepad sheets, once torn out of the notepad, become quite a mess. They just pile up and clog drawers and make the bags look untidy. The sheets become rockets, cricket balls and all sorts of material for fun. The papers are seen lying in the corridors, classrooms and form a heap in all classrooms. These heaps, if brought together from all classes of all grades, from all schools following this system (the collection throughout the year) could easily engulf Mount Everest in a sea of paper.
SPARE THE EVEREST FROM ALL THOSE PAPER BALLS...

The scrap dealers benefit a lot from this entire waste of paper. You can easily find your notes {if you need to submit them} from the nearest shopkeeper who sells eggs, or a sandwich nook.
There is yet a creative mind to think of a solution to notebooks and their weight. So sad, schools send out no creative children.
                                Byes, Cries and Buses…
After listening to the byes and cries of the children, I, with my younger brother, set out for school. It was the bus we used for travel. However, nearly once a week at an average, we would miss the bus. This is because of the sulking, that I discussed in the beginning of this series: “How I Learnt Learning”. The boredom that was seen in the eyes of each child was evidently the failure of a school to develop interest in learning. When a child is seen happier in the bus while coming back, and a frown while going to school is evidently the failure of the school!
Some children, the younger ones usually expressed it by crying. They would cling to the shirt of their dad or the dupatta of their mom, while the bus attendant pulled the child into the bus. Waiting for the bus, with the bulky bag on our shoulders, the throbbing pain and waiting for the bus to come- not with the eagerness of reaching school but with the motive to sit and relax our shoulders for a while.
As each stop passed by, one could see a mother putting a lunch box in her son’s bag. A girl would be seen running towards her building gate, as if in a sprint. A father would come on a scooter and park ahead the bus. A child would get off and run into the bus. A young boy would be running, and would slip into a puddle.  There was a sense of hurry and haste, in each child, each parent and each bus attendant.
What I couldn’t understand was the need to create a crowd in the bus! Why were children being pushed and collected like a shepherd collects herds?  Why can’t there be two buses more? It wouldn’t do much harm. When one pays for the bus service it is the school’s responsibility to provide good service. The children can’t be crowded in a bus….period….
Here a little questioning was done by my mother. Do I want to send my children in a bus, where they are being treated nothing less than load carrying mules? Am I willing to do this because there are 1894 more mothers willing to do it?
I too, decompressed. Is it necessary to go in a crowded bus, where carbon dioxide levels are higher than the oxygen levels?

Is it important to go in a crowded bus to earn knowledge? Do I want be one among them, a student like everyone else or something extra ordinary, that shines apart? I went for the latter one and here I am:
The only one probably, from that crowded bus, who writes a blog, who learns on his own- to format and customize his blog. And I am happy to be the one not among the crowd. Yet, I am one among all bloggers in this huge world, but I have a long life ahead of me, yet to stand apart…Make my own identity find myself. I have chosen to get off that crowded bus and search the road less travelled.

How I Learnt Learning...

             “How I learnt learning.”

“The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.” –Sydney Harris.

Its purpose is to create minds and personalities that would mould generations into creations...

However, moulding a generation doesn’t need uniforms; nor does it demand waking up early in the morning. Neither does it need a semester or unit test. Moulding a generation does not demand one to be in a grade or standard at a particular age. All it needs is a creative, unconventional, thinking and a questioning mind.
As per my observations I feel that the standard needn’t be decided on the age but the intelligence level of the child. That’s because it usually happens that when a child having the level of intelligence of a grade ten student, he may yet be giving his seventh grade exam. Similarly, a child with intelligence of a mere fourth grader is promoted to higher grades.
A child who has learnt synthesis and paradox earlier than the system wants him to learn is yet forced to write sentences converting present to past tense. Similarly,  by the time one may reach his matriculation, he may have to learn synthesis and paradox while he may be yet struggling with tenses and nouns.
A child able to find is the H.C.F. and L.C.M. of numbers has to write 1 to 1000 and write number sequences. On the contrary, a child who yet doesn’t know the multiplication of numbers has to write the H.C.F. of numbers, which he is totally unable to do.

The former leads to boredom, frustration, behaviour issues, loss of interest in…studies, than education and then learning. The latter leads to frustration, helplessness, irritation and loss of confidence due to failure-again and again; and most importantly but sadly- loss of interest in learning.
Most of the great scientists who had dropped out of school had been cut off from education; but nevertheless they continued learning. Learning from life. They continued observing, exploring, learning, experimenting and then of course-inventing. They didn’t get frustrated because they weren’t being tested. They were exploring. Neither did they have the greed to get the highest marks, nor did they have the fear of failure. Even if they were afraid of failure, they had the courage and exposure to move on and continue exploring.
If Newton would’ve been sitting in a classroom, studying about the parts of an apple, he wouldn’t have discovered gravity. If Edison would have continued schooling after being called “addled” he would’ve been called much worse of things. He didn’t. And the truth is that he invented the electric bulb.
So if one loses interest in learning, can that person, mould generations into creations? Without learning, one can’t even mould clay.

“We don’t stop learning because we lose interest in life; we lose interest in life because we stop learning. “

These futilities and lacks in schools-in aspects of crowd, people, discipline, health issues that I had and most importantly-learning, prompted us to take that plunge into home schooling. It wasn’t a split-second decision, it took us time and lots of decision making. What we realized was that Home schooling had a solution to all these. Being close to parents and being allowed the liberty to select the right company for me, I always have someone accompanying me. No one is jealous; neither am I with wrong company and nor do I suffer loneliness. The crowd and people around me are decided by me.
Home schooling is more of self-learning. Apart from me, with my parents guiding me, no teacher, principal, coordinator or HODs can decide my life, what I shall learn, how I shall learn. No one decides how many marks I get for typing this blog. If I give that authority to someone it’s only me or my parents or you, my audience.
I never played most of the weekdays with the sword of an exam, homework or fixed date of submitting something hanging on my head. This usually kept me agitated with a head ache. The first thing I did after coming at home was- not type my blog, not go for a cycle ride, not learn code, not learn something new and that’s what I do now.
Also, learning wasn’t exploring, inventing; actually, learning was not learning. It was just the marks, the word to word answers and rote memory. No matter the child forgets the name of the chapter by the time he is handed over a checked paper, but if he has got 25 on 25 he has learnt, but not literally.
After new avenues of learning and exploring have opened up to me, it’s been a beautiful journey so far- first unlearning, then learning and then again unlearning and beginning to learn a new way to learn.
Come; join me in this journey called

               “How I learnt learning.”

the Voyagers...and the Journey of infinite Learning Experiences...

              Good Morning?

  Part 1
The SUN is bright as ever, but am I???
Good Morning! Is it a good morning? Do I ever feel it?  Why does school have to be early in the morning? Why does it have to be a dragging and pushing and sulking experience? Why do I have to go with drowsy eyes, aching calves and an inactive mind? How am I going to do anything creative innovative or new; if the very beginning of my day is full of boredom and agitation! Today, this day of March 2014(the day this series began), I have got up with a happy and satisfied mind, so am able to build what you are reading at the moment. This is because I am relaxed. Hence, my mind is able to produce  words and ideas; and recollect my own experience.
A rested person is always happy, healthy and more innovative.
Rest is the most important aspect of a human being. A rested person is always happy, healthy and more innovative. My mom always insists on a Sunday afternoon nap, to compensate for the stress and lack of rest of the the previous as well as following week.
Lack of rest also causes health issues. I have had sore and tired eyes. The heavy bags have caused me backaches. Not only I, but also a majority of my classmates in school experienced these problems and issues. Back and headaches are not healthy for children below 16. No more, after this journey began did I have any of these.  Lack of rest urged me to spend spare time (if I had any), lazing around, instead of practising recreational activities such as just running, cycling or badminton. Lack of rest, not only burdens the health but also makes one drowsy and unable to do anything appropriately.
The entire day would be clogged up with assignments, homework, class-work and exam preparations. So, the number of activities I wanted to do, weren’t possible to fit into the limited time (after completing all those pending assignments) I had so many activities that I had grown interest in, never happened. I never got the time. I couldn’t make it. If I had been a not-so-good student, and would never completed my homework, it would have been better. At least, looking from the point of view of my health!
Lack of rest made me sulk and get irritated every now and then. I was unable to focus on my study material. I couldn’t even concentrate on things I loved doing. I lost control of my cycle, once. I wasn’t able to type for my blog. And this isn’t only me. It happens with anyone who is not rested. I noticed this same behaviour in my classmates. Many of the students experienced sore eyes, headaches, aches and pains in calves and back.
Most of my friends slept during lectures or after completing assignments.  Some (the weaker ones) would have headaches and spend the entire working day sleeping in the nurse room. Some slept in buses (including me) both to from the school.
Primary years were less stressful due to afternoon shift. However, in higher grades the morning shift for almost 9 hours took a toll on my health. However, school had to be done, we had to go because everyone did. Only after decompressing, asking ourselves and reasoning the system, did a journey called Home schooling began.
I asked myself when I witnessed these events. Hilarious, but stupid; but is school meant for sleeping or gaining education? Is it for gaining knowledge or losing rest and damaging health? Is it important to wake up that early?

Nine or Six, what matters is what I learnt.
Today, I woke up at 9 instead of 6 (timings for school) for a medical follow up for my brother. Although, I didn’t learn the brief answer of all joints and bones in our body, I am happy I came to know that there is no need to remove a nail from a bone after a fracture.
Questioning doesn’t end there. If the reason for waking up early is to be fresh and active for school, am I fresh and active? No!!! Then why the daily stress and headaches! Should a thirteen year old experience headaches? Is it healthy? No.
me- a product of Decompressing and Questioning

However, I repeat it’s only my opinion and all may have different ideologies. It was just a decompressing and questioning I did with myself. It was only decompressing from the daily conditioning to school, and questioning. I, questioned my self a lot of times.
Beliefs may be different. Dilemmas may be different…

My World...

mY  wORld..........

            MY BROTHER, SHAHAAN

TO START MY BLOG, I WOULD LIKE TO DEDICATE MY FIRST ARTICLE TO MY YOUNGER BROTHER, SHAHAAN.

He is of short-height and a happy-go-lucky boy, is adored by all girls and the most important, he is always smiling a “happy smile”. He has one of the most unique smiles in the world, his smile….his smile can melt a mourner’s heart!!!He has the world’s most unusual kind of hair of brownish-yellow and gold color and a cute little nose which turns red every time he sneezes or coughs!!!He loves animals and is after my mother to buy him a puppy and has an extra ordinary wish of owning a animal shop, selling dogs, cats and fish!!!

Coming to his personality , he is simply ‘adorable’. He is sometimes really harsh and may even fracture a wrestler’s hand or break a car’s antenna(I was a witness to the latter!!!)!!!He cries for every petty issue like even losing a simple cricket match with friends!(However the above mentioned problem can be solved by a good helping of cool, sweet, chocolate milk!) He does math skilfully but his English reading needs good amount of sharpening… However, he is sensitive at heart leaving the fact that he is very mischievous, but adjusts with all sorts of people…

He has a lot of ‘bads’ but his but his ‘goods’ balance or even make his ‘goods’ scale heavier! He is one of the most expressive and demanding people I have ever met...he is clear with his thoughts and does not think twice and just speaks up....

His likes and dislikes are a bumper! He adores sweets and finishes a meal, provided someone feeds him...

"He lives on air", is what my mom says.He hates vegetables and likes to eat burgers at McDonalds, provided he gets a good toy with the meal!He likes if people go about his way of living with all his whims and fancies... He is the youngest in the building but everyone sincerely listens to his inputs with regards to playing...He enjoys with all and makes friends in a jiffy! He feels he is the best dancer in the world and plays all sports and does several other activities happily....

He was born on a Sunday, which is a fun day and so, maybe, he loves vacation....He wants a holiday every now and then and is a fun-loving chap...

I, from the bottom of my heart wish that I am able to develop his qualities that he is gifted with and I want him to be related in one or the other positive way to me in my next life too!!!
I vow to be a wonderful elder brother, supporter and protector to him always...

of course,  to my younger brother.....

Greens to Greys

                                   Greens to Greys .........

It’s been thirteen years since I have been dwelling on this wonderful earth, in this vast continent, in a cultural sub-continent, and a financially rich city-Mumbai. All I have seen is buildings, towers, highways, flyovers, expressways, crowds, vehicles, pollution, constructions, developments, re-developments and the gradually increasing technology(notwithstanding the regular and natural vacations I experience with my parents).
Although, living in a metropolitan city has spoiled me no end, I have a close bond with nature. I hear stories from my enthusiastic and adventurous parents about their childhood; sleeping a night with stray dogs, climbing mango, chickoo and peru trees, planting saplings, tilling the soil, running about in open fields, swimming in ponds and lying on rocks throughout the day.
I’ve also read stories written by Ruskin Bond and am greatly impressed the way he portrays nature, in the most beautiful way, of course, along with his literary skills. I love potting plants. Whenever I begin planting one, nothing can stop me, no rain (this has happened truly!), no thunder, no heat, until I have got the natural essence of the soil to my heart’s content. Watering plants is something I enjoy doing. I pour the water in the soil and then sprinkle the leaves with water, tickling their surfaces.
Only if I had the power of the Almighty, I would surely bring back those vast green fields, those tranquil environments, those ever-lasting stretches of mango and chickoo trees, those sweet smelling fertile soils, and those short, grassy hills. Oh! How I wish all of that would be the realities of today and not the memories of the past!
It is a shame that although man has evolved from nature, very few actually care for Mother Nature. In an attempt to make earth our habitat we are forgetting that we are not the only species. We aren’t even the first species on earth. It’s only that we have two legs to stand on and two shoulders that hold an intelligent and superior brain. No harm in creating, inventing, exploring, but we should remember that we aren’t the only ones. There are other creatures too. There are the bounties of mother- nature. It’s a step that a species, we, have to collectively take.
We have the option to continue and get our privacy. Privacy. Without trees, flowers, animals, birds. Only then will we realize that we cannot live only on money. Mother earth has been very kind to us and has never caused us anything wrong. And she won’t. Nor will she complain. All she may do is decrease the suffering of the other animals. Although, some of the animals are well treated and taken care of, all aren’t lucky. Some places may still have growth and vegetation, but all don’t. Trees, how many ever they are they are getting nothing but CO, instead of CO2. I hope everyone knows what their cars are releasing (carbon monoxide).
Mother earth has an alternative for the oxygen that the trees are giving us. It’s just about the right time. The trees, with their pledge to help mankind in its survival, have suffered over the past hundred years. We cannot go beyond hundred years because any damage before that is irreparable. No possibilities visible. All we can do is slow down. Give back all that we have taken. I feel that there is no sense in taking clean river water and give back dirty gutter water. If gutter water has only organic, non-chemical wastes they can be let back.
Forests are cut for setting up extravagant residences; fields are dug and concreted for building roads; huge hotels are set up over thickets and bushes, thriving of grasshoppers. Where, earlier there were freshwater lakes and clean sparkling flowing rivers, a drain of effluents flow now. Beautiful lush meadows are now the stinking garbage grounds. Butterflies are now a rare site. Colors are a rare site. There are only the blacks and greys and blues of chemicals and pollutants. The colors are seen only in the screeching metals of automobiles and painful advertisement lights. No more do we see the cows under any boughs. I don’t even see a cow nowadays. It may become a novelty to see cows and cats on the roads and streets. Seeing a cat then, would be as unique as seeing an elephant today. And this won’t happen tomorrow. This will take place over a time. Nature takes its time.
Imagine a day 100 years from now. The time before IT started. A day when no scrapers were visible and not many automobiles were seen. The air was purer and the water cleaner. With the first rays of the divine sun, my eyes would open. With dreams. Dreams to do nothing. Just slop and loll and lounge. No hurry.
By an hour after sunrise, I would be out; out in the vast meadows with the harmless cows and sheep grazing, with utmost laziness and a relaxed sense of mind. And me, I would be on a half broken bicycle. Would have had my milk already and would be now off to the river bank. Until afternoon, I would be there.
Sitting and gazing at the clean sparkling water and the clear sky. I could see a flock of birds, migrating to some place, warmer. I would be glued to the sky and lovely morning scenery just like I am glued to the computer at the moment. I would be unaware that; that water, divine and pure would be stinking and stale, only for the ambition of my species. The clear blue sky would be grey and the air would be choking. The rocks, on which I lazily lounged, would be a hydroelectric power station, 100 years from then. However, I would be unaware, oblivious to the future. And in that naïve feeling I would continue my day.
I would then, just an hour before lunch would hop on to the lowest and thickest branch of a mango tree. The tree would have just got the first crop. I would then bite into a sour, green mango. No harm if I’d fall. I would be carefree. Careless! I knew I would fall on the lush green grass, or a muddy puddle, but not a concreted street. I would again, be oblivious to the fact that that mango tree, a 100 years from then would be just a street lamp, with a billion cars and bikes going to and fro,  underneath it. It wouldn’t bear mangoes. Just a yellow bulb!
After lunch it would be a busy day. Staring at trees, skies, rivers, birds and lakes takes a long time if one does it accurately. The night would be staring at dark skies. Counting the stars again and again every night and try and calculate the total number of stars. Failing but enjoying.
But then, this me. This human. So ambitious and determined. I go forward and develop a town. Than a city. Than a metropolitan. I destroyed the very thing that gave me pleasure in my own life. I build skyscrapers, cars. I am developing and progressing, no doubt in that but I forgot my childhood companions. In order to make my life comfortable and happy, I forget the definition of comfort and happiness for me.
Then, I curse myself for my deeds. Every time I see a street lamp, a concreted road, a stinking garbage ground or a gutter or a damn dam; I curse myself for it. I didn’t realize then, I realize now.
But what can I do? Break those scrapers and industries and set up rural villages? Shut down the hydroelectric stations and bring rocks? Go clean each river, lake, pond that is being killed by chemicals and effluents by the day? All I can do is regret.
We can take small steps - one at a time but all together.
Throw away those plastics and replace them with more earthy materials. Let’s not just let water be wasted. Let the rain be harvested and each drop saved. Let’s set up solar stations and roads. The sun doesn’t mind it. The question is, are we ready to do it? Are humans willing to do it rather than a sect, community or country?
Are we willing to spend, to earn.
 To earn the trust back.
 From?

BUT BEFRIEND A FOE WITH TWO!

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A LIP
AND WHAT WITH TWO?
WITH ONE YOU CAN SIP,
BUT RELISH AND DRINK IT WITH TWO!

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH AN EYEBROW?
AND WHAT WITH TWO?
WITH ONE YOU CAN SHOW,
BUT PRESENT WITH TWO!

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A HAND?
AND WHAT WITH TWO?
WITH ONE YOU CAN CREATE MAGIC,
BUT A MAGIC WAND WITH TWO!

ITS ALWAYS TWO MORE THAN ONE
AND ONE LESS THAN TWO
AND DO AS I DO

BUT REMEMBER
IT’S ALWAYS SAME THE OTHER WAY
BUT FAR MORE WORSE THE OTHER WAY!
USE THE OTHER WAY
AND BE SORRY FOR IT!
REMAIN HAPPY AND GAY,
AVOIDING IT

HOW DOES IT LOOK LIKE, WITH A CHIN?
AND HOW DOTH IT WITH TWO?
WITH ONE IT LOOKS LIKE A GRIN,
BUT FAR MORE DEVILISH WITH TWO!

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A KICK
AND WHAT WITH TWO?
WITH ONE YOU CAN KICK
BUT HARM WITH TWO!

WHAT MAY YOU DO WITH A MOUTH
AND WHAT WITH TWO?
WITH ONE YOU MAY SHOUT
BUT SCREECH WITH TWO!

WHAT CAN YOU CREASE WITH AN ELBOW
AND WHAT WITH TWO?
WITH ONE YOU CAN CREASE A BOW
BUT A SMART SHIRT WITH TWO!

~First Rains 2014~

                   ~First Rains 2014~

Today, after a sweaty and hot summer ,the rains have finally blessed Mumbai. It all began with large nimbus clouds which covered the entire sky. By 7:00pm, it was as dark as 8:30pm of the rest of summer.
I, on the persistent demand of my younger brother was down, playing. He was adamant and wanted me to play cricket with me after we had finished our work which had been planned for the day. He was unable to finish any work. He had got the bulaava of his friends within 2 hours of waking up. He was off to play with his friends.
Meanwhile, I wrote a chapter of Hindi. It was after a long time that I had written anything with pen and paper. The entire May, I was always typing. The long halt had taken a toll on my handwriting.
I wondered, a month back, I wrote tons of material. Today, after writing a single page, I was exhausted. My fore arm pained a bit. However, I did complete the work that had been designated to me(by myself), with success.
Even now I am not writing, I am typing. I felt that although this is my chilling time(keeping May's timetable in mind), I should write this article . I realized that no one would be interested in reading about the first rains once winter begins(that's how the work usually gets prolonged).
Getting back to the first rains, we were in our society playground where each boy dreamt of becoming a great cricketer. One thinks he is a class spinner while the other wonders how he will hit the winning six for India in the 2035 world cup.
Each catch incurs lots of happiness and enthusiasm. Similar to the happiness incurred after winning a lottery of 10 crores.
However, boys are boys. A game doesn't last long when we boys play it.
Misunderstandings, fights, and of course the everlasting Indian, cricket spirit to win. After playing 2 matches or so, we could see the oldies of our building, on their evening walk, or rather "evening sit". Once we have all of them sitting on all possible places. The game ended there .
Everyone got engaged in their prolonged boring talk. Of cars, bikes, bats, players, movies; which I am never interested in. And nor is anybody. Something has to be done. Something to occupy them for a long time; until someone suggests some game, the oldies leave for dinner or till everyone is bored and leave for home.
I chickened out of the conversation. So did Shahaan and his friends. I could very well see large nimbuses spread out in the sky as I lifted my head up to give those high catches to Shahaan and his friends. One of those catches hit a honey comb.
However, we forgot it once one of our friends, the last one to have chickened out of the conversation said he felt water droplets falling on him.
By then, I was too bored and almost had left for home. I told that it might have been the AC in the club(somewhere I myself wished that they were the droplets of the first rain. It had been steaming hot that day and I was visualizing the cold water of either our shower or the much expected rain.)
And yes, it then drizzled. I could see those tiny wet patches of the drizzle. It was much likely to rain. For quite some time I waited and observed those huge nimbuses. They signalled a shower.
If it wouldn't have been for the rain I wouldn't have any reason to call in such a hurry; in order to give the good news to my parents. However, in a lot of excitement and enthusiasm I called a wrong person.
I ceased my excitement. Then, I decided to go and give the news personally.
By the time I gave the news and was back I could already feel and see that there was a sense of bonhomie all around. I could see each boy in the playground either dancing or running about in the rain. The oldies had pulled their chairs and sat, under the first covered and well protected area they could find.
Each mother was seen calling out their respective child. All the mothers shared a mutual fear of their children getting a flu, or catch some virus. Each mother warned her child to not get too wet, except mine.
The over smart ones, or maybe stupid ones suggested that all of us should play carrom in the club. It was rather a stupid idea.
I had carried a rubber ball. I was the only gracious one. To give my ball and play squash. Something innovative? By the time we finished a game it had stopped raining.
Only after I got wet in the rain did I realize  how hot the summer was.
And Oh! What a relief it was to see it raining. To see the tree leaves wet.
To see each chair covered with water. To see the entire ground wet.
To see myself drenched in water after being drenched in sweat the rest of summer.
      To see happiness all around.
To see my younger brother dancing about in the rain after coughing and sneezing the entire afternoon.
And of course, a new blog topic to write about.
Now that it's been almost been two months since I am homeschooling. I now contemplate.          Now I shall never just sit in the classroom and view the rain.
Now I can dance in the rain-whenever it pours, whenever I see those nimbuses in the sky, whenever I feel like.
Without thinking about any test the next day.      Without worrying about a cough.
No matter how much I get wet, or how much it rains, I don't care. It's about how much I shall enjoy.
Finally, I realize that it's not just farmers who are happy when it rains!
